They are grown from actual mined diamond seeds using highly advanced technological processes that mimic the Earth environment.

How Lab Diamonds Grow

The Process

HPHT Diamonds

HPHT stands for High Pressure High Temperature. This method starts with putting an original diamond seed in carbon. Following which, the diamond seed is then exposed to extreme heat and pressure, replicating the way diamonds are naturally grown under the earth. There are 3 methods used to create an environment of high pressure and high temperature around the diamond: 1) Belt press 2) Cubic press OR 3) Split-sphere (BARS).
Diamond growth occurs over 1.5 million pounds per square inch (PSI) of pressure and above 1400°C of temperature. This intense pressure and heat melts the carbon, forming a diamond around the initial diamond seed. The newly formed diamond is then carefully cooled.

CVD Diamonds

CVD stands for Chemical Vapour Deposition. The CVD method places an actual mined diamond seed in a vacuum chamber. This chamber becomes filled with carbon-rich gases (like methane) and is heated to nearly 800°C. The gas turns into plasma from these extremely high temperatures, causing the release of pure carbon pieces that become layered onto the initial diamond seed, which grows the diamond. The CVD process produces Type IIA diamonds, which are extremely rare for naturally occurring diamonds. Type IIA diamonds are the most chemically pure diamonds – they lack nitrogen and/or boron impurities, unlike HPHT diamonds that are exposed to nitrogen.

Simulants do not have the same chemical and physical properties as diamonds and therefore sell at very much lower prices.
The quality of simulants is nowhere as close to that of diamonds. Simulants easily scratch, chip, and lose their shine over time.
